X-Sight Digital image correlation FAQ

DIC is an optical measurement method used to measure the displacement, strain and deformation of materials without physical contact. The system analyses image sequences to track changes in a pattern on the surface, thereby generating accurate measurement data.

X-Sight DIC systems are used for:

  • Validation of FEM and CAE models
    Analysis of material behaviour
    Measurement of deformation and strain
    Structural testing and product development

Typical applications include tensile testing, vibration analysis and structural monitoring.

  • 2D DIC: measures deformations in a single plane and is suitable for simple applications.
  • 3D DIC: uses stereo cameras to measure out-of-plane movements and complex geometries as well, 3D is therefore required when the object does not remain flat during the test.

The systems offer very high accuracy:

  • Sub-pixel resolution < 0.008%
  • Strain resolution down to a few microstrain
  • Measurements ranging from the microscale to structures tens of metres in size

Yes. The dynamic DIC systems have been specially developed for high-speed processes such as vibration and impact tests:

  • Measurements up to 10 kHz
  • Real-time feedback
  • High-frequency analysis of deformations

Virtually any material or structure can be measured, ranging from:

  • Microchips
  • Plastics and metals
  • Biological materials
  • Large structures such as bridges

X-Sight systems are suitable for both:

  • Laboratory tests
  • On-site measurements (portable kits available)

All systems run on Alpha DIC software, which:

  • Provides real-time and post-processing analysis
  • Has a modular design
  • Is suitable for various tests (tensile, compression, torsion, etc.)

Yes. X-Sight systems are modular:

  • 2D systems can be upgraded to 3D
  • Software modules can be added depending on the application
  • Non-contact measurement (no impact on the test object)
  • Full-field analysis (not just point measurements)
  • High accuracy and flexibility
  • Suitable for both R&D and industrial applications
